The European Solidarity Corps aims to promote solidarity, one of the fundamental values of the European Union, mainly through volunteering, in order to increase the involvement of young people and organizations in solidarity activities of a high quality.
The European Solidarity Corps is aimed at young people aged between 18 and 30.
What are the benefits of involvement?
- offers young people a memorable life experience with challenges that will help them better understand both their limits and their potential;
- contributes to the personal development of young people by fulfilling their aspirations;
- improves young people's career prospects through the skills they will later develop;
- young people receive support during the activity;
- participation in training courses that use interactive learning methodologies;
- coverage of travel, accommodation and maintenance expenses;
- making available three types of projects (volunteering, occupational and solidarity) from which young people will be able to choose according to their needs;
- receiving a certificate of participation attesting to what you have learned.
At the same time, in order to be able to participate in a project within this program, young people must respect the following principles:
- to share the values of solidarity and respect for human dignity and to promote their spread;
- to strengthen solidarity between people, while respecting their culture and traditions;
- show solidarity, cooperation and mutual understanding;
- comply with the rules of the host organisation;
Generally we notice the fact that some volunteers are confronted with cultural, social or educational obstacles.
For example, some volunteers have a very low level of English so it will be necessary for them to follow some English courses provided by sending or hosting organisations.
Another issue can be a low performance in IT skills. In order to improve this area, when we will send volunteers, we will offer them professional support in the organization, the chance to learn and practice on our computers before going abroad.
Non-formal methods will be very much used to take out the volunteers from their comfort zone and to involve them in different activities in order to be better prepared for the stage.
We already noticed that the big impact of a volunteering stage is on the people with fewer opportunities. Therefore, as much as possible, we will strongly encourage and help them to apply for being a volunteer abroad.
Depending on the additional needs identified in the relationship with volunteers with fewer opportunities, we will include in the action plan one or more activities from the list below:
additional support for training - giving to volunteers with difficulties of understanding or educational barriers;
emotional support for introverted volunteers;
additional time allocated for linguistic preparation;
applying for a training portfolio to find a job after the volunteering stage
